This was inevitable.

After Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar’s recent public lovefest of sorts—him putting his own spin on “Shake It Off,” her returning the love with an adorable rendition of “Backstreet Freestyle” the Hood Internet has gone and consummated it all in the form of a shiny new mashup. And for two songs on such extraordinarily different wavelengths—while “Backstreet Freestyle” dawdles, “Shake It Off” hops and shimmies—it isn’t half bad. (Though it doesn’t quite stack up to some of the Hood Internet’s more compatible marriages like “Polish City” or “Reflekt You Tonight.”)

Give it a listen, and whether you like it or not, it doesn’t really matter: This is probably just the first of many TSwift/Kendrick pairings. (And considering K-Dot’s recent dabblings outside of hip-hop, don’t be surprised if there’s a real collaboration down the road.)
