It doesn’t look like Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, and company will have an easy end to their journey.

New Line Cinema has released a new trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, showcasing the all-out warfare that’s about to consume Middle-earth. Just about every major character from the last two films in The Hobbit trilogy makes at least a brief appearance, and a few tantalizing glimpses hint at what’s to come in the film’s 45-minute battle scene.

It’s “the last move in a master plan, a plan long in the making” according to Gandalf’s voiceover narration, and that plan looks to push just about everyone involved to their breaking points.

Involving a battle that looks to rival the final skirmish in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the KingBattle of the Five Armies has only one question to ask, as Gandalf so succinctly puts it: “How shall this day end?”
