Fox’s Masterchef Junior returned to its best ratings ever Tuesday night.

The cooking competition had 5 million viewers and a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49, up 13 percent from its Friday debut last year, plus rose steadily throughout its hour-long premiere. The performance helped improve Fox’s struggling comedies New Girl (3.4 million, 1.6) and The Mindy Project (2.9 million, 1.3), which have taken a dive this fall, especially with the now-canceled Utopia having recently haunted the 8 p.m. spot. That NBC’s The Voice—which airs up against Masterchef Junior—was a recap last night and CBS was in repeats probably helped.

Tuesday was an abnormal night with all the election coverage. But worth pointing out that ABC had back-to-back Selfies (3.7 million, 1.0), down another notch from the comedy’s last original two weeks ago. NBC’s Marry Me (5 million, 1.3) was down 13 percent without an all-new Voice lead-in and About a Boy was down 8 percent (4.1 million, 1.1).
