Kelly McCreary has been promoted to series regular on Grey’s Anatomy, EW has learned.

The actress joined the show at the end of season 10 as Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) half-sister, Dr. Maggie Pierce—the daughter Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) gave up for adoption, unbeknownst to the father, Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.). The truth of her identity has finally come out, but Maggie still has icy feelings towards Richard, who failed to tell her sooner that he was her father.

“I have been getting a very, very positive reaction,” the actress recently told EW from the set of the ABC medical drama. “I’ve been getting a lot of, ‘I really wanted to hate Maggie, but I can’t help it, I like her.’ As backhanded a compliment that is, for someone to come in and not just claim to be Meredith’s sister, but also take up all of the screen time away from all of the characters? I was expecting a less warm reception.”

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Grey's Anatomy

Meredith. Alex. Bailey. The doctors are definitely in on Shonda Rhimes' hospital melodrama.
