Your streaming docket is about to get a bit more crowded. Powers is a new series from Sony Pictures Television—the studio that produced Breaking Bad—that will be entirely exclusive to Playstation owners.
Based on the long-running comics series of the same name by writer Brian Michael Bendis (who also scribes a number of Marvel books like Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, All-New X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy) and artist Mike Van Oeming (who’s currently wrapping up The Mice Templar), the series follows detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, two cops on the Powers beat, investigating crimes involving superhumans.
The first episode of the series will be made available for free for everyone (even those who don’t have a Playstation), and individual episodes after that will be available to stream or download exclusively on Playstation platforms. Subscribers to the console’s premium Playstation Plus service (which costs $49.99 annually) will be able to watch the entire series for free in addition to exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. That, of course, comes in addition to the monthly free games and discounts/features that come with the service already.
Watch the first trailer, unveiled at New York Comic-Con, below. Be advised, there is some adult language involved—similar to Netflix, the series seems to be taking full advantage of the fact that they’re not on a broadcast network.
Also, how great is that smash to the title card?
