When the Flaming Lips finalized their star-studded Sgt. Pepper tribute album, With a Little Help From My Fwends, last month, more than a few feared Miley Cyrus would take a wrecking ball to her contribution, “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” Now the Lips have released the track, which also features Moby, along with pre-ordering details.

To match the song’s psychedelic mood, Cyrus abandons her juvenile twang, her voice floating above especially tender instrumentation. And the Lips resist their habit of veering toward the twee on “Lucy,” which bodes well for the rest of the collection. But don’t crank the cover too loud—for the chorus, Coyne and Co. drop the beat in a gleefully bombastic way that only the Flaming Lips can.

With a Little Help From My Fwends drops Oct. 28. It also features contributions from Dr. Dog, My Morning Jacket, Tegan and Sara, Phantogram, Foxygen, Grace Potter, MGMT’s Ben Goldwasser, and Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis.
