You’d be right to expect more from director George C. Wolfe, who doesn’t exactly dig deep in this heavy-handed story about a self-destructive burnout (a fine Emmy Rossum) forced to grow up by becoming a caregiver for a concert pianist with ALS (Hilary Swank). Despite offering a well-timed look at the realities of the disease, the movie clunkily eschews cinematic creativity for emotional manipulation. Inquisitive ice-bucket challengers, consider yourselves warned. C
