Generally, a figure of speech is just that–speech. Words. Not real actions. But on The Wendy Williams Show today, host Wendy Williams made good on an old saying by literally eating crow.

Today’s main course was set into motion last year, when Williams declared that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s wedding would never come to pass. She promised—multiple times—that if they ever did get married, she would eat crow live on the air.

The host even looked into various ways crow is eaten in different parts of the world—and checked to make sure eating it isn’t illegal. She imagined the bird would be “tangy,” and promised to eat it on the 73rd day after the two were married—a reference to Kardashian’s short-lived marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries.

But Williams’ hubris brought her too close to the sun, and her certainty melted like the crow in the meal prepared for her on today’s episode. A chef appeared to cook her some crow gumbo, which Williams claimed tasted like chicken liver. She said it really wasn’t so bad before gulping down a glass of water.

Viewers can only hope this is just the start of a series in which Williams turns idioms like “it’s raining cats and dogs” and “spilling the beans” into segments on her show. It’s more than likely, however, that from now on she’ll take some precautions before predicting whether celebrity couples stick together.
