Madden NFL 15

After running back Ray Rice was cut from the Baltimore Ravens and indefinitely suspended by the NFL, EA Sports announced today that they will be removing the player from Madden NFL 15.

EA Sports confirmed the news on the Madden Twitter account, stating that he will be removed this Friday with the game’s routine update this week. The NFL announced it was indefinitely suspending Rice after a video was leaked to TMZ of the player getting into a physical altercation with his then-fiancee in Atlantic City.

With Ray Rice’s indefinite suspension from the NFL, he will be removed from Madden NFL 15. The roster change will take place by this Friday.

Rice will be unavailable to play as either a free agent or on the Ravens roster for those starting up the game, but, as Polygon notes, players already in possession of the game can have Rice play in their career modes. This change will affect the rosters used for online, competitive matches, which is a separate roster from that used in career mode.

Rice’s removal from the game follows a string of other professional athletes who have also been removed from sports video games, including New England tight end Aaron Hernandez from Madden NFL 25 and New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez from MLB The Show ’14.

An EA Sports representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
