Sarah Paulson will be pulling double duty on American Horror Story: Freak Show.

The upcoming season takes place in Jupiter, Florida in 1952, where the arrival of a troupe of circus performers coincides with the emergence of a dark entity that threatens the lives of freaks and normal residents alike. Paulson will play Bette and Dot, Siamese twins who are likely among the show’s big attractions.

“It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done, without a doubt, both physically and emotionally, because the way we’re doing it, I go back and forth between both girls without any break,” Paulson tells EW. “I’m not able to just play one thing out. I have to switch constantly. It makes me feel like patting your head and rubbing your stomach and you’re not sure what you’re doing anymore.”

Still, Paulson is more than grateful for the opportunity to play not one, but two very different roles this season. “It’s hard, but glorious also,” she adds. “There’s no other place that I’d ever get to do what I’m doing right now and that’s the truth.”

AHS:FS will debut Oct. 8 at 10 p.m. on FX.
