There have been rubber men, psychotic mental patients and plenty of crazy witches, but Jessica Lange says the upcoming season of American Horror Story is actually “the most extraordinary” yet.

Dubbed Freak Show, the upcoming season takes place in Jupiter, Florida in 1952, where Lange leads a troupe of circus performers whose arrival coincides with the emergence of a dark entity that threatens the lives of freaks and normal residents alike.

“I’m actually looking forward to this season,” Lange said backstage after winning an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for Coven. “This season is going to be the most extraordinary that we’ve done. If it can all come together and we keep on track, it’s going to be something really, really special.”

So special that Lange could decide to continue on with the franchise beyond this season, despite previously telling EW that Freak Show would be her last? Alas, Lange played coy when a reporter insinuated she’d be sticking around. “Who told you that?”

AHS:FS will debut Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 10 p.m.
