In 1990, Peter Larson and fellow paleontologists in South Dakota unearthed the most complete T. rex ever discovered, nicknamed Sue. But what should’ve been their crowning achievement became a Kafka-esque nightmare when the government confiscated Sue, claiming Larson’s team had stolen fossils from federal lands, and threatened him with 353 years in prison — more than Jeffrey Dahmer faced. If the doc is one-sided, at least Larson & Co. are compelling, sincere, and sympathetic. The film succeeds as a touching ”love story” between a small town and a 67- million-year-old T. rex.
