Rumors have been circulating that Sam Smith is in line to record the next Bond theme, following fellow British retro-soul singer Adele’s turn as the voice of Skyfall. But in a new NME interview he says it’s not happening.

“No, I have no idea what that was about,” he says, “and I know as much as you do. You probably know more than me.” Smith calls recording a Bond theme “something that everyone would love to do,” and adds that Jack White and Alicia Keys’s contribution to Quantum of Solace is his favorite song from the long-running franchise.

Smith did confirm that he’s in the very early stages of creating the follow-up to his hit debut album In the Lonely Hour. He says he’s reached out to two writers so far, and mentions Jessie Ware and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes as two artists he’d like to collaborate with in the future.
