Drake pitches Kevin Durant, Raptors fined 25k
The Toronto Raptors have been fined $25,000 for comments that Drake, rapper and team ambassador, made about Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant at a recent concert in Toronto. The NBA sees the comments as a violation of its anti-tampering rules, ESPN reports.
ESPN’s sources explained that Drake, who was named the Raptors’ global ambassador in September 2013, performed what the league considers a public recruiting pitch: “Before we leave, I just want to show one of my brothers something,” Drake said, addressing the crowd. “You know, my brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us. I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen.” Following Drake’s comments, Durant was met with an ovation, and the crowd reportedly broke out in a “KD” chant.
The Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, and Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly planning to court Durant, who will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2016.
