So there is this list on the internet that apparently contains every role Oscar winner Jeff Bridges has turned down in his career. And if you were to believe everything you read on the internet (and why wouldn’t you, right?), then Bridges was beaten out by Richard Gere twice—for An Officer and a Gentleman and Pretty Woman—and that audiences could have been “talking to” Bridges instead of Robert DeNiro in Taxi Driver. While promoting his new film The Giver, the actor sat down with EW‘s Matt Bean for a Sirius XM Town Hall Meeting and cleared some things up.

For starters: Bridges was never offered the part of Indiana Jones, or rather, “that great Harrison Ford thing with the hat” as he puts it. He did confirm that he was close to getting Tom Hanks’ part in Big after his leading role in Starman, but like a jacket two sizes too small, “it didn’t quite fit.” As for the news that Bridges was once in consideration to play Batman, well, it seems like that was news to Bridges, too.

You can hear the entire Town Hall Meeting with Jeff Bridges on Friday, August 15 at 7 p.m. ET—the same day The Giver comes out in theaters—on EW Radio Sirius XM 105.
