If you’re a fan of Veronica Roth’s Divergent—as well as the film series it’s spawned—you know that the book is markedly more violent than Summit’s first adaptation. How much more violent? Well, in volume 1, a Dauntless initiate named Edward ends up leaving his new faction after a pair of his rivals stabs him in the eye with a butter knife. The sequence was left out of the first Divergent movie entirely… though evidently, not until after it had been filmed.

Want to see the movie’s Edward writhe in pain, clutching his bloody eye socket as he groans like an animal? If, for some reason, the answer is “yes,” you’re in luck: a deleted scene showing just that has been released on YouTube.

Divergent hits DVD and Blu-ray on August 5, and is available via digital download now; the second film in the series, Insurgent, will be released in theaters March 20, 2015.
