5 Seconds of Summer plays to breathless fans on 'Today'
Timed to the release of their self-titled debut album, 5 Seconds of Summer stopped by The Today Show today to give fans a more-than-five-second sample of their new album.
Surrounded by screaming teenage girls, the band chatted with Matt Lauer about how far they’ve come from their first gig (which was in a room with 11 people) to play in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza. As always, they were affable, charmingly Austrailian, and almost impossible to hear over the high-pitched cheers of their fans.
The performance included both the band’s earworm hit “She Looks So Perfect”:
It may have been the heat, or it may have been the thought of Ashton, Luke, Michael, and Calum’s American Apparel underwear, but the performance proved overwhelming for some fans: Today reported that 18 young women received medical attention after standing outside in the sun for too long.
Still, the two girls who managed to nab a pass to the front of the audience from Hoda Kotb seemed to think their several-day wait was worth it—even as she had to remind them to breathe.
