The best of Colleen Donaghy, in tribute to Elaine Stritch
By the time she died yesterday at the age of 89, Elaine Stritch had made a name for herself in many ways—for her one-woman shows, for her indomitable will, and for her unique, often pants-less fashion sense—but perhaps the most indelible recent addition to her resume was the role of Colleen Donaghy on 30 Rock.
On the show, Stritch turned Jack Donaghy’s (Alec Baldwin’s) mother into a force of nature, emphasizing her irascible nature and ability to induce a heady amount of Irish-Catholic guilt. Colleen died mid-quip in season 7 of 30 Rock, leading Jack to put on the biggest, weirdest, funeral ever. Stritch deserves something just as grand.
Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, and Tracy Morgan star in the Emmy-winning comedy. You want to go to there.
