'True Blood' actress to star in Marvel's 'Daredevil'
A True Blood actress has found her next gig, and it’s a big one: Deborah Ann Woll has landed the female lead in Marvel’s upcoming Daredevil series, sources say. With HBO’s vampire drama coming to a close this year, Woll has signed on to play Karen Page in the Netflix-distributed series.
In the Daredevil comics, Page is the longest-running love interest of Daredevil’s alter ego Matt Murdock, having been introduced in the series’ first issue. The character was briefly glimpsed in the Daredevil film, but this is the first time she’ll be actively portrayed on screen.
Woll played Jessica Hamby on True Blood during the show’s seven-season run. On Daredevil, she joins Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) as Murdock/Daredevil, along with Elden Henson (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) as Murdock’s best friend and legal partner, Vincent D’Onofrio (Men in Black) as crime lord Kingpin, and Rosario Dawson (Sin City), who has a secretive role on the show.
Including Daredevil, Marvel will soon have at least three television shows on the air, including ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the upcoming Captain America spin-off Agent Carter, which ABC plans to launch in midseason. Daredevil is from showrunner Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus) and will premiere on Netflix next year. Marvel and Netflix had no comment on the casting.
