Amanda Hocking first made her mark in the YA world by self-publishing the popular Trylle Trilogy. The novels were so successful, she garnered a publishing deal with St. Martins. Now, Hocking is back with a new series called The Kanin Chronicles set in the world of the Trylle. The first book, Frostfire, hits shelves Jan. 6, and EW has an exclusive first look at the cover (click above for the full-size image).

“I loved creating the world of the Trylle in Switched, Torn, and Ascend, but those books really only showed a small part of the fantastical world that Wendy, Finn, Loki, and the other trolls inhabit. As soon as I finished that series, I knew that I wanted to go back to the world,” Hocking wrote in an email to EW. “I wanted to write a complimentary tale to Wendy’s, to show the flip side of the life she’s only just beginning to understand—to see it from the eyes of the tracker, to learn more about the mysterious Kanin only hinted at before, and to feel the dangers that come with growing up in such a treacherous but magical world.”

Here’s the official description:

“Bryn Aven is an outcast among the Kanin, the most powerful of the troll tribes. Set apart by her heritage and her past, Brynn is a tracker who’s determined to become a respected part of her world. She has just one goal: become a member of the elite King’s Guard to protect the royalty. She’s not going to let anything stand in her way, not even a forbidden romance with her boss Ridley Dresden. But all her plans for the future are put on hold when Konstantin—a fallen hero who she once loved—appears to be up to something dangerous, kidnapping changelings. Bryn is sent in to help stop him, but will she lose her heart in the process?”
