We're not the only ones who are going to miss seeing Joe Manganiello shirtless on a regular basis

As we enter the dog days of summer, TV fans everywhere are mourning the loss of our favorite canine companion — and his truly droolworthy human incarnation. (Spoiler alert: Stop reading if you’re behind on True Blood.) Joe Manganiello’s chronically shirtless Alcide, Bon Temps’ resident contractor/werewolf/faerie enthusiast, was shot and killed in the July 6 episode, abruptly ending his five-season run on the HBO hit, which is racking up quite a body count as it barrels toward its Aug. 24 series finale. Fittingly, the frequently naked fan favorite exited this world wearing nothing but a stunned expression. As a parting gift, Manganiello tells EW, ”I took my sock.” (And he is not talking about footwear.) ”I’m gonna frame it and put it up in my guest bathroom. That’s a fun piece of memorabilia.” So is there any chance Manganiello — who’s currently promoting his directorial debut, La Bare, a documentary about male strippers — could reprise his role in the True Blood musical, which the show’s composer Nathan Barr has pitched to HBO? ”I’m not a musical person,” says the Magic Mike star. ”I want to throw it out there: If anybody’s gonna play Alcide, I want it to be Hugh Jackman.”
