The Amell cousins are joining forces in the DC Comics universe. Robbie Amell has been cast in The CW’s The Flash in a recurring role playing Ronnie Raymond — better known to DC fans as half of the Firestorm team.

The casting marks Amell’s return to the network following the axing of his short-lived super-hero show The Tomorrow People, and puts the actor in the same creative TV universe as cousin Stephen Amell, the star of The Flash companion series Arrow. “[Producers] Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and myself designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) — and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting,” said executive producer Greg Berlanti. “We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.”

Amell will make his debut in the show’s third episode of the season. “I’m so excited to join forces with Greg Berlanti and The CW again on The Flash,” the actor said in a statement. “Being brought into the DC Universe is a dream, I can’t wait to get started.”

In the comics, young student Raymond and physicist Martin Stein were caught in a nuclear accident that gave them the ability to fuse together into a hero called Firestorm. In the show, Raymond will be the fiance of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). Below is an image of Firestorm from the comics:
