Didn’t make it down to New Orleans for the 20th annual Essence Festival? (Essence, like EW, is a Time Inc. publication.) The bad news: You missed out on a Prince concert that may never make it online—at least, not in an officially sanctioned sort of way. The good news: You can catch a few highlights of the fest in the videos below.

We’ll begin backstage with first night headliner Nas:

Then we’ll move on to the illmatic rapper’s set:

Nas, of course, was only one of the major musicians performing at Essence Fest; others included psychedelic robot/badass songstress Janelle Monáe:

And, of course, Mary J. Blige. Is this enough drama for you?

Throughout the weekend, singers and rappers mingled with actors and other onscreen personalities. Take, for example, Sleepy Hollow favorite Nicole Beharie, here giving the scoop on three things you may not know about her:

And then, of course, there was the event’s biggest surprise of all: A previously unannounced appearance by Dave Chappelle, on hand to introduce his good friend Erykah Badu. Here’s the two of them discussing his onstage cameo, which made the crowds go wild. (Any chance of a tagteam tour, guys?)
