TNT’s action-adventure series The Last Ship opened big Sunday night, delivering 5.3 million viewers for its premiere episode. The post-apocalyptic series about a naval ship trying to survive a deadly pandemic led into the return of alien-invasion drama Falling Skies, which had 3.7 million viewers. When including encore telecasts, Last Ship totaled 7.4 million and Skies had 4.7 million.

For Last Ship, this marks the most-watched new series debut on cable so far this year. TNT points out the block represents some A-list producer talent, with Michael Bay on Last Ship and Steven Spielberg on Skies. The news follows on last week’s TNT premieres for the fifth season of Rizzoli & Isles (7.5 million viewers across two airings) and season 3 premiere of Perception (4 million viewers across two airings). TNT has five of cable’s Top 6 scripted season premieres this year so far with Major Crimes and Murder in the First joining the titles above.
