Star Wars Musical

For those already worried about the “Disneyification” of the franchise, this Star Wars YouTube parody represents the worst of all possible futures: It blends the classic sci-fi film with tunes from animated Disney movies, and adds in a whole slew of princesses distinctly not of the Alderaan variety.

Released by YouTube user George Shaw, the video traces the plot of A New Hope, incorporating melodies from Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and other classic Disney flicks. Along the way, it sends up the worst of the Disney juggernaut, which acquired the rights to George Lucas’ sci-fi epic in 2012. The video even ends with a call for viewers to “please buy more toys, and DVDs, so Disney can make more movies for you and me.”

But the parody also levies some jokes back on the Star Wars galaxy. At one point, Mulan appears and croons, “All the white guys are leads, but they can’t kick ass like me” (here’s to hoping for a good role for Lupita). Some things, however, went the way fans would want. Case in point: Han shoots first.

Shaw also plans to release Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi musical installments, bringing up the possibility of a horror not even hinted at in the upcoming sequels and spinoffs: singing ewoks.
