• Jared Leto, who won an Oscar for his work in Dallas Buyers Club, is in early talks to star in Brilliance for Legendary Pictures. According to Deadline, Leto met with director Julius Onah on Monday. Based on Marcus Sakey‘s novel, the film posits a world where a small number of the population are “brilliants,” which basically means they have extraordinary abilities. The film, adapted by David Koepp, focuses on a federal agent — also a brilliant — who must track down a fellow brilliant who wants to use his powers to start a war. Will Smith was previously attached to the role, but recently exited the project. [Deadline]

• Mamie Gummer (Side Effects) is in talks to star opposite her mother, Meryl Streep, in Ricki and the Flash. Kevin Kline is also in negotiations for the Jonathan Demme-directed, Diablo Cody-scripted film about a woman who is trying to right the wrongs she made when she was younger and chose rock ‘n’ roll over her family. Gummer appeared as a toddler in Heartburn with her mother. [The Wrap]

Marvel is considering a standalone Hulk film, according to Mark Ruffalo, who portrayed the superhero in The Avengers and its sequel. [Digital Spy]

• Kevin Costner is in talks to star in Criminal, from Iceman director Ariel Vromen. In the story, “the memories and skills of a deceased CIA agent are implanted into an unpredictable and dangerous convict” according to the logline. [Variety]

Boxer Victor Ortiz will appear in Antoine Fuqua‘s boxing drama Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams. Ortiz will make his big-screen debut in Expendables 3. [Deadline]

• Dylan Baker (Spider-Man 2 and 3) will play FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover in Selma, Ava DuVernay‘s civil rights drama starring David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr. [Deadline]

• Jessica Barth will reprise her role as Tami-Lynn in Ted 2. She played the girlfriend of the vulgar, Seth MacFarlane-voiced teddy bear in the first film. [The Wrap]

• Madison Davenport (Noah) will play Tina Fey‘s daughter in The Nest, which is currently in production. [Variety]

• Elisabeth Rohm, who played Jeremy Renner’s wife in American Hustle, will play Mel Gibson‘s estranged wife in Blood Father, where their daughter gets mixed up with some drug runners. [The Wrap]
