All’s fair in love, war, and basketball — but that’s not always true on Twitter.

Jimmy Kimmel brought back his popular “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets” segment on Sunday night, but with an NBA twist. In the segment, timed to game 5 of the finals, Kimmel brought on basketball stars such as Dwight Howard and Jeremy Lin to respond in person to the insults they’ve received online.

The tweets prove, if anything, that no one is safe from heckling on the internet and — as Lin points out — that proper grammar is a lot more valuable than you think. Though if anyone out there is still sending messages to the stars (sports or otherwise) of the world, you git got to remember that someone is paying attention.
