Heathers The Musical

By now, you must know that the classic ‘80s dark comedy Heathers is a full-blown Off Broadway musical. If you can’t get your croquet mallet in time to catch a performance in New York, you’re in luck — the show will be preserved for eternity via cast album.

Heathers‘ original Off Broadway cast recording Beyonced at midnight on June 10 — but for some, simply having the album won’t do. That’s why EW brings you three behind-the-scenes peeks from the recording of Heathers.

First, enjoy Barrett Wilbert Weed and Ryan McCartan in the show’s act two power ballad “Seventeen,” wherein gloomy lovers Veronica and J.D. yearn for a return to innocence after kind of, sort of regretting that they murdered a bunch of people:

Second, fix your scrunchie and meet the Heathers themselves — Jessica Keenan Wynn as queen bee Heather Chandler, with Alice Lee and Elle McLemore as Heathers Duke and McNamara, respectively — in the trio’s intro song “Candy Store”:

And lastly, catch Weed and McCartan in the pivotal act one number “Dead Girl Walking,” in which Veronica is oh-so-conflicted about high school life — but decides she just loves J.D.:
