It’s always hard when your favorite celebrity couple breaks up (and you’re forced to declare on Tumblr that love no longer exists). Luckily, Taye Diggs understands.

In an interview with Redbook magazine, Diggs opened up about the end of his 10-year marriage to Idina Menzel, one which inspired theater fans everywhere to believe that some people really can have it all (including cute YouTube videos). “I’d be lying if I said there weren’t times when I thought, Oh, man, people are going to trip out [if we split],” Diggs told Redbook. The two separated last December.

The high-profile couple first met in 1995 — when Diggs and Menzel joined the original cast of Rent — and married eight years later. Diggs now works in California, shooting TNT’s Murder in the First, while the wickedly talented Menzel is performing in If/Then on Broadway. (For those living under a rock, she also voiced the role of Elsa in Disney’s Frozen.) “There weren’t a lot of couples like us in the theater community,” Diggs said, explaining why their relationship was so appealing, “and I know there aren’t a lot of performers as talented as she is… and then you have the whole mixed [race] thing.”

The couple’s son Walker is now four years old — and even though he and Menzel are living across the country from each other, Diggs promised that they’re still totally committed to their child. “Right now, we’re still trying to figure out a lot of stuff because we’re on different coasts and our son is getting older,” he said.

Okay, so maybe there’s some goodness left in the world.
