Today’s filmmakers often appear to be in an arms race to create the biggest beasties imaginable. But the truth is you don’t need to be the size of Godzilla — or even a Big Ass Spider! — to create monstrous amounts of mayhem.

All of which brings us to some important news for horror nuts and, in particular, fans of the Leprechaun series of films. Lionsgate and WWE Studios announced today that the franchise reboot Leprechaun: Origins will be available on Digital HD, Video On Demand, and Pay-Per-View on Aug. 26. The seventh Leprechaun movie, and the first to star WWE wrestler Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl as the titular Emerald Isle gremlin, will also be available on Blu-ray and DVD on Sept. 30.

Leprechaun: Origins is directed by Zach Lipovsky and written by Harris Wilkinson. In addition to Postl, the film stars Stephanie Bennett (Grave Encounters 2), Andrew Dunbar (Alien Trespass), Melissa Roxburgh (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days) and Brendan Fletcher (Freddy vs Jason).

According to an official synopsis, Leprechaun: Origins concerns two young couples who, while backpacking through the Irish countryside, “quickly discover the idyllic land is not what it appears to be be when [a] town’s residents offer the hikers an old cabin at the edge of the woods. Soon, the friends will find that one of Ireland’s most famous legends is a terrifying reality.”

Word has it that the reboot is a considerably more serious affair than the original, Warwick Davis-starring movies, which included 1997’s Leprechaun 4: In Space and 2000’s Ice-T-featuring Leprechaun: In the Hood.
