• Will Smith is reportedly in talks to star in an untitled NFL concussion drama for Sony. The story will be based on Jeanne Marie Laskas‘ 2009 article “Game Brain” that was published in GQ. Peter Landesman (Parkland) is set to write and direct the pic, which is being described as a whistleblower tale similar to The Insider. Smith would play Dr. Bennet Omalu, according to the report. • Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey) will star as Miss Shepherd in The Lady in the Van, which just got the greenlight at TriStar Productions, the studio announced Tuesday. The story is the true account of an eccentric woman who parks her broken-down van in Alan Bennett’s driveway one day and remains there for 15 years. Bennett will adapt his memoir and stage play (which also starred Smith) for the big screen. Alex Jennings (The Queen) will play Bennett in the adaptation. [Deadline]

• Max Charles, who played the young Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man and the sequel, has joined Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper. He’ll play the son of Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. [The Wrap]

• Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction) will play Alabama Governor George Wallace in Selma, director Ava DuVernay’s civil rights drama starring David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr. [Deadline]
