UPDATE: Ballmer signed a deal with the Sterling family trust on Thursday night, which will be sent to the NBA for final approval, ESPN reports.

Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has won the bidding war for the Los Angeles Clippers, offering a record $2 billion for the NBA team, the Los Angeles Times reports.

According to ESPN, one group Ballmer outbid includes Oprah Winfrey, record execs Jimmy Iovine and David Geffen, and Steve Jobs’ widow Laurene.

The Clippers were up for sale after owner Donald Sterling was caught on tape making racially charged statements and was then banned from the NBA for life. His wife, Shelly, is negotiating the team’s sale, which will need to be OK’d by the NBA.
