The lighting bolt doesn’t fall far from the tight red suit.

John Wesley Shipp, the actor who played Barry Allen in the short-lived TV series The Flash on CBS in the ’90s, has been cast as Henry Allen, the superhero’s father in the upcoming CW remake starring Grant Gustin.

“Given his history with The Flash, [executive producers] Andrew [Kreisberg], Geoff [Johns] and I could only think of one person we wanted to play Barry’s father and that was John Wesley Shipp,” executive producer Greg Berlanti said in a statement. “He gives a fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot and we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes.” Shipp previously worked with Berlanti when he played Mitch Leery, the father of the titular character on Dawson’s Creek.

The Flash will air Tuesdays at 8pm ET this fall on CW. In addition to Gustin and Shipp, the cast includes Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Rick Cosnett and Tom Cavanagh.
