Jessica Chastain offered a lead role in 'True Detective' season 2?

With the identity of the Yellow King finally revealed, the biggest question remaining at the end of True Detective season 1 had little to do with plot. Everyone wanted to know: Who is going to star in season 2?

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto is rumored to be interested in signing a female-led cast for next year, and according to Nerdist, he found one of his women: Jessica Chastain. Yesterday, the website cited sources that claimed the Zero Dark Thirty actress has been offered a leading role for season 2, but had yet to accept.

Now E! is saying that the report is false. Reps for Chastain told E! News that she is not doing the series. HBO also denied the news.

EW’s requests for comment from Chastain’s reps were not immediately returned.
