Apparently, those rumors of Robin Thicke’s very public attempt to woo back estranged wife Paula Patton were not unfounded — the singer did indeed unveil his new song “Get Her Back” at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night.

While there was no mention of the About Last Night actress’s name during the performance, there was no denying the message behind the (not so subtle) lyrics, which included lines like “I should’ve kissed you longer, I should’ve held you stronger, and I’ll wait for forever for you.” During his acceptance speech for Top R&B song, Thicke also thanked “my wife,” waxing poetic about their relationship as if they were still together.

Thicke and Patton, who have been together since they were teenagers and married since 2005, separated back in February. Since then, Thicke has seemingly made it his mission to win her back, speaking out publicly about his still-burning love for her and dedicating songs to her on his recent tour.
