The New Hip-Hop Power List
Assuming the rumors are true and Dr. Dre is thisclose to selling his Beats empire to Apple for $3.2 billion, where would that put him relative to rap's other heavyweights? We've gone all scientifical to come up with a power ranking, taking into consideration cash and artistic merit.
1. Dr. Dre
He’s one of the game’s most respected godfathers — and the Apple sale would make him the richest, too. (Forbes says his net worth would hit around $800 million.)
2. Jay Z
He’s on this list because he’s married to Beyoncé. And oh, he has $520 mil. Not even Solange can knock him down!
Surprised? Don’t be: He’s worth about $160 million, and his label’s stable includes Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Drake. And did we mention Drake?
4. 50 Cent
After bringing in big bucks (and lots of electrolytes) with his 2007 Vitaminwater deal, Fiddy — who’s worth a reported $140 million — is now dabbling in TV production.
He’s worth an estimated $700 million (thanks, Sean Jean!). But when he reportedly tried to buy the music network Fuse, he was outbid by his ex J. Lo. It’ll take a lot of Cîroc to drink that pain away.
