Who says the broadcast networks get to have all the fun this week? TBS got into the renewal/cancellation action Saturday by both renewing AND canceling Cougar Town. The cable network picked up a sixth season, which will mark the comedy’s final round on the network.

The Courteney Cox comedy was rescued from cancellation once before after ABC axed the show a couple years ago. Cougar Town joined the TBS lineup in January of last year. The most recent, fifth season averaged more than 2 million viewers and ranked as one of cable’s top comedies among adults 18-49 (1.3 million). It’s always possible that anther network could scoop up the show, though it seems unlikely after having it had a run on both broadcast and cable.

Cougar Town returns to TBS early next year for 13 episodes.
