Fox's Batman prequel adds 'Gossip Girl' writer-producer
A write-producer from several popular prime-time soaps is moving onto Fox’s highly anticipated Batman prequel series.
John Stephens has worked on The CW’s Gossip Girl, The WB’s Gilmore Girls and Fox’s The OC. He’s coming on board Gotham as a writer and executive producer. As previously reported, Bruno Heller (Rome, The Mentalist) is the showrunner for the Warner Bros. TV project, which has recently wrapped its pilot and has a “series commitment” from Fox (which means Fox would have to pay a penalty if the show is not ordered to series but there is not yet an actual series order for the show).
Gotham shows the early lives of many characters in the Batman universe. The story centered around a young idealistic Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie). There’s also a young Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), Gordon’s partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin (photo above, Robin Lord Taylor) and more. Though Stephens might not seem like an obvious choice to write for the show at first glance, there’s a number of teenage characters in cast, and he’s obviously had plenty of experience writing for younger characters.
