Marilyn Manson haunts new 'Salem' opening credits: Watch now
The folks behind Salem have turned to a very logical person to provide a creepy song for their witch drama: Marilyn Manson. (Sure, Stevie Nicks wouldn’t have a bad choice either, but then again, she’s aligned with a different coven, American Horror Story.) The shock rocker’s new tune “Cupid Carries a Gun” can be heard this Sunday as part of the new opening titles for WGN America’s 17th-century-set drama about the Salem witch trials.
“Cupid Carries a Gun” was the final track finished for Manson’s new album, and Salem composer Tyler Bates, who worked on the album with Manson and co-wrote the song, thought it was a fit for the show, which premiered last weekend. Apparently, the singer agreed. “The occult and witchcraft is so often used in cinema with a heinous disregard for even researching its origins,” says Manson. “However, I liked the themes of Salem. It looks at the witch trials without being cliche like most modern films.”
