Muggles on both sides of the pond will be able to watch the upcoming Casual Vacancy miniseries.

HBO has come on board as a co-producer of BBC’s previously announced miniseries adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novel The Casual Vacancy, EW has confirmed. The three-hour miniseries will be written by Sarah Phelps (EastEnders) and will be directed by Jonny Campbell (In the Flesh).

The story focuses on a local election in Pagford after a sudden death.

“We are thrilled to bring J.K. Rowling’s extraordinary tapestry of modern Britain to the screen,” said Ben Stephenson, the controller of BBC drama, in the original press release. “It’s a book of such richness that through humour, social commentary and above all fantastic characters, that says something insightful and entertaining about the country we live in.”
