Pop singer Richard Marx and his actress/singer wife, Cynthia Rhodes, are calling it quits after 25 years of marriage. People confirmed the news and spoke to reps for the 50-year-old singer, who confirmed that the pair had been separated since July and are currently in the process of divorcing.
Marx, who found success in the ’80s and ’90s with popular love ballads like “Right Here Waiting,” appeared on Friday’s episode of Katie, where he talked briefly on the subject of dating. Speaking to show host Katie Couric, the singer said, “It’s all brand new to me, so I’m just having fun.”
Marx and Rhodes met in 1983 while the actress was playing the role of John Travolta’s love interest in Staying Alive; at the time, Marx was working on the soundtrack for the film. The pair dated for four years before tying the knot in 1989 and went on to have three sons: Brandon, 23, Lucas, 21, and Jesse, 20.
