Dreamworks Bets on Teen Romance
The hit comic book ''Eleanor & Park'' may be coming to a theater near you in the next few years
Big Red is headed to the big screen. The girl with the flaming curls (and not-so-flattering nickname) from Eleanor & Park and her comic-book-loving crush are getting the movie treatment, with DreamWorks Studios picking up the rights to Rainbow Rowell’s best-selling novel about teenage misfits in 1980s Nebraska. “Every girl who has read it says, ‘That was me in high school,'” Holly Bario, DreamWorks president of production, tells EW. The studio was drawn to the love story because it wasn’t a typical one “where the ugly duckling is in love with the hot guy,” Bario says. Rowell will write the script, and once a cast and filmmaker are attached, DreamWorks hopes to start shooting in 2015.
