Still shaking your head over the thought of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson taking on the role of Hercules, the legendary warrior? With the first official trailer for Brett Ratner’s epic released Tuesday, you can now pass judgement for yourself.

To be fair, The Rock looks pretty convincing in his outfit (which includes a piece of awesomely acquired lion headgear) and the trailer does a nice job of laying out what Ratner undoubtedly wanted to get across: this version of Hercules is not all fun and games. Ratner’s film follows the story of the warrior who, in the wake of his legendary twelve labors, becomes a mercenary. When the King of Thrace and his daughter seek him out for help to defeat a tyrannical warlord, his life is tested in a way it never has been before. Based on the graphic novel series Hercules: The Thracian Wars by Steven Moore and Admira Wijaya, the film promises to be gritty, violent and action-packed — if nothing else, it should definitely pique curiosity, whether you’re a fan of Johnson or not. Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Rufus Sewell, and John Hurt also star.

“Are you only a legend? Or are you the truth behind the legend?” the trailer asks. We’ll have to wait until July 25 to find out, but until then, you can check out the teaser below:
