Iron Man actor Terrence Howard has landed the starring role in Fox’s hip-hop drama pilot Empire.

The project is a family drama set in the world of hip hop featuring original and current music. It’s from The Butler team of Danny Strong and Lee Daniels, along with fellow executive producer Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo.

Howard’s last regular TV gig was on the short-lived Law & Order: LA and he also had a role in The Butler. Here he’ll play the extravagantly named Lucious Lyon, a “charismatic, savvy music superstar who is about to take his company, Empire Entertainment, public. Raised on the streets, he has never backed away from a fight and will resort to any measures, fair or foul, to defend his beloved Empire.”
