Elaine Stritch says f-word on 'Today'
You might expect a live f-bomb from Miley or Selena or Kanye, but an 89-year-old Elaine Stritch?
The Emmy-winning actress and singer just said the f-word on NBC’s Today show while promoting her new documentary Shoot Me (video below.) Hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford inadvertently set up the bomb by asking her about her reputation for bluntness.
“Elaine, you are beloved, as much for your work — of course — but for your mouth,” Gifford says. “You say whatever you want to say.”
“Thank God it’s, hasn’t been… not passed on television,” Stritch says. “If you just say things naturally, it’s fine. They’re just thinking ‘f–k.'”
“Oh dear! Oh dear!” exclaims Gifford.
“I meant a serious point by that,” Stritch replies.
Accidental or not, Stritch did accomplish one thing: She’s about to get plenty of publicity.
Asked for a comment, a Today rep replied: “The Today show is a live news program, without a tape delay. However, we edited the audio and visual on our website and for all other time zones.”
