U2, ”Invisible”
As a Super Bowl giveaway that raised more than $3 million in matching funds for Bono’s AIDS charity, U2’s latest is basically critic-proof. But the first salvo from the seemingly indestructible rockers’ upcoming 13th studio album should get credit for keeping it simple and pretty, with a clean version of their clear-eyed 21st-century template. Miranda Lambert, ”Automatic”
Lambert’s new single (it will be on a still-untitled full-length due this summer) is a strummy-sweet tribute to things that take time — Polaroids, manual transmissions — and also, apparently, to the kind of midtempo guitar-and-cymbal drama favored by her recent tourmate Dierks Bentley.
