UPDATED: Jay Leno exited on a very high note: The late-night host’s final Tonight Show delivered his biggest audience since 1998.

In the updated national ratings, Leno delivered 14.6 million viewers and a 3.8 rating among adults 18-49, his biggest overall audience since the night of the Seinfeld finale. In adults 18-49, this is the top Tonight since Conan O’Brien’s last night hosting the show in 2010. The rating more than quadrupled the show’s season average.

Boosted by the big lead-in, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon had its largest viewership ever with 6 million viewers; the highest number for the Late Night franchise since David Letterman’s finale in 1993.

After the Olympics opening ceremony this evening, tonight will mark Fallon’s last Late Night show before he transitions to taking over Tonight. See Leno’s tearful goodbye.
