Prince is officially dropping a $22 million lawsuit against members of a Facebook group and a Blogspot account, mere days after he announced he would be going after the fans for posting links to copyrighted material of his live performances. The singer announced late Tuesday night that he would no longer be pressing charges against the fans who have since removed the links in question.

Prince was subject to much criticism online after he announced earlier this week that he would be pursing a lawsuit against the targeted group of fans who had uploaded a total of 363 copyright infringing music files.

Lawyers for the pop star elaborated on the decision to drop the lawsuit in a comment made to TMZ:

“Because of the recent pressure, the bootleggers have now taken down the illegal downloads and are no longer engaging in piracy. We recognize the fans craving for as much material as possible but we’d prefer they get it from us directly than from third parties who are scalpers rather than real fans of our work.”
