'The Mindy Project': What's your favorite fictional first kiss?
The Mindy Project
- TV Show
[Spoilers from Tuesday’s The Mindy Project]
Mindy Kaling loves a good romantic comedy, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise that Mindy Project‘s winter finale last night culminated in a perfect rom-com moment: Danny kissed Mindy! And it was a longggg one! On a plane! After helping her try to win Cliff back!
I don’t know how I’m going to be able to wait until April to see what happens next. (Is Cliff going to be at the airport? Will Danny want a relationship? OMG what is Morgan going to say!?) Side note: Between this and her meeting with Ginsberg from Mad Men on an airplane earlier this season, I can’t help but feel like I’m getting on the wrong flights.
For fans of Mindy and Danny’s will they/won’t they tension, the moment has been in the making for quite some time. I mean, you don’t rush to the hospital in a season premiere for just anybody! And while there are debates to be had about whether you want those two together as a couple on the show right away or not, it got me thinking about some of my other favorite TV first kisses — because Mindy and Danny certainly ranks up there.
The O.C.: Say “Seth and Summer kiss,” and you probably think of the first-season Valentine’s Day episode, or their “big, public make-out session” as school after Seth demands to be acknowledged as her boyfriend. But their first kiss on the show — in an early episode where Seth recites an old poem she wrote in a grade school — culminates in one of the most out of the blue, did-that-just-happen moments of the early run of the series. The moment may have been brief, but it will always have a place in my teen soap-loving heart.
The Office: It’s no surprise that for years Jim Halpert topped many online polls as fans’ favorite TV boyfriend. His charm and jokes were always on display, but when he coupled that with some vulnerability — like when he confessed his feelings for Pam and she shut him down — well, that made him irresistible. In the final seconds of the second-season finale, fans finally got the moment they’d been waiting for ever since Jim first turned his chair to smirk at Pam.
Gilmore Girls: I could take or leave most of Rory’s boyfriends (I like you better on Supernatural, Dean), but I’m pretty sure I’ve never screamed at my television as loudly as when Luke and Lorelai finally — FINALLY! — kissed in the fourth-season finale. I practically wore out my rewind button listening to Luke say, “Will you just stand still?”
And now, let’s relive Mindy and Danny’s lip-lock:
Which TV first kisses had you rewinding on the DVR, or — for those who are thinking more Ross/Rachel — breaking out an old-school video tape?
