This year was a great one for truly terrifying movies, from The Conjuring and the Insidious sequel to Mama and The Purge. But the most head-in-your-hands frightening may have been You’re Next, the twisted home-invasion flick that yielded a high body count with its clever execution of extreme executions. Part collaborative indie project, part horror homage, You’re Next is the story of a joyous family reunion that is interrupted by murderous intruders wearing animal masks. Per horror tradition, the family gets picked off one by one — Why? We’re not sure… yet. — but nothing about You’re Next is like anything you’ve seen before.

In the exclusive (slightly gory) video clip below, the cast discusses the pre-vis work that went into the movie’s most brainheart-stopping scene.

You’re Next, which stars a lot of familiar faces you’ve seen die in other horror films, goes to VOD tomorrow, Dec. 27, and comes out on Blu-ray Jan. 14. Here’s the full trailer, accompanied by that now-haunting Lou Reed tune, “Perfect Day.”
